Another short film of the puppies in the garden

4th March 2005, early evening | Comments (70)

A photo of a white puppy running along

Following on from last week’s film, here’s another video of the puppies arsing about on the lawn. This time I got my iMovie HD import right so the picture is much higher quality than before. It’s also much smaller, coming in at 49MB instead of 83MB.

Pick it up at the (still unstyled) download site, and prepare to go “Ahhh” a lot.

Awesome. I loved last week's video, so I look forward to seeing this one too :D BitTorrent is such as great way of distributing large files, and it looks like it's taking off. It won't be long before companies recognise it as a legitimate download system (instead of just a piracy tool) and take advantage. If bandwidth costs as a result of distributed downloading go down, then we may see less intrusive advertising and such being used to cover said costs. Maybe. I don't have a clue what I'm talking about. All I know is that BitTorrent is clearly Commie.

The puppy photos and films are all great, but I can tell you're really getting your technique down with your camera and editing skills!

Well done on the kung fu fighting and transition into the garden!

Thank you for the film Dunstan,

Excellent, the best yet - but how on earth do keep up with them damn puppies? And why hasn't your iSight thwacked a rock or something yet?

Who needs a Steadicam, eh, when you've got an iSight-on-a-Stick? Well worth the wait, once again.

Amazing to think that only six weeks ago, they couldn't even see... and now they're running around like mad!

Another well-made movie of cute puppies. :)

However, you really should teach them not to bite on those plastic flower pots. I saw them doing that in the previous movie, and now again in this one. It's still harmless here, but once they get older they'll be able to byte chunks off, and you don't want them to do that.

Because I am like a panther when I move.

I think I speak for all of us soulless nerds when I say, *Enough with the freakin' puppies* - how about some design posts?

Sheesh, I can only imagine what would happen if there was a baby involved, or (gasp!) kittens.

Fellas, the Internet is plenty big, if you don't like the fact that the contents of my blog reflects what's happening in my life, then bugger off elsewhere.

This site isn't just for techies, it's for my family and friends as well, all of whom want to know how the puppies are doing. They've had to endure countless technical posts over the years and I've never had one of them send a whining comment about it.

The bottom-line is: if you don't like a post, then don't read it. If you don't like any of my posts, then don't visit my blog.

  12. Andrew:

Sorry... but in Dunstan's defence, how exactly do yours and the Anonymous Coward's comments make any sense whatsoever?

Not that I want to start an argument or anything, but where does it state that Dunstan will provide us with "something interesting"? Personally, I find it reassuring that Dunstan actually has a life away from his computer!

In what way is he disrespecting his readers? As he pointed out, not all of his readers want "design posts". So, to reuse that fantastic British phrase (which, being British, I'm perfectly entitled to use), bugger off, if you don't like it!

    ---
Sorry about all that - it hasn't been a good morning, and I just felt the need to get it off my chest. No offence meant to any parties involved.

Posted 17 hours, 37 minutes after the fact
  13. Dunstan:

No they don't. The content of my blog has nothing, not one tiny little thing, to do with what you want, or what the Anonymous Coward wants, or what every reader of my site wants -- it's up to me.

I've given you technical posts in the past, be happy with them. If you never get another one from me, then tough luck. And if that means my readership shifts from nerds to puppy-lovers then fine, I don't mind. Next week when the puppies are gone I may switch to photographing bottles of vitamin pills, or writing 3 line poems about France. This is my site, and I couldn't give a damn what you like, what you expect, or if I bore you.

Now, bugger off and read one of the millions of other sites out there that deal with technical matters. I have work to do.

(And please don't bother replying to this, I'm not interested in debating with you.)

Good on ya, mate! (I seem to remember that from a London pub night/crawl when someone asked me to defend a certain Leader of the Free World and I replied that the only defense I could come up with was something like "let me shoot first!") I personally, have learned much from the generosity and kindness of all the people who inhabit my blog bookmark folder - including Eric Meyer, Veerle Pieters, John Hicks, Andrei Herasimchuk and bunches of others. And while I originally started reading their blogs for insight into web technologies, I've found that the blogs are only as interesting as the lives of the people behind them. I'm very thankful for all of the wonderful teachers out there who help us to learn, and frankly, there is no good way to repay you. So when I see whiny posts from greedy thankless people, the only thing I can think is, well, "Let me shoot first!"

    Hey Dunstan...

Loving the movies, just a small Bit Torrent question though, obviously what you really need is plenty of seeders to make the movies faster to download for other blog readers. I'd be much happier to seed torrents if Bit Torrent client wasn't so intrusive. I was wondering if theres any sort of torrent client that will run in the background, maybe with just a small icon in the system tray?

    Just a thought. :)

Azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/) is an excellent BitTorrent client which is updated fairly often. It minimizes to my system tray, handles seeding, multiple downloads, creating torrents, and plenty more without bogging down my system. Also, being in Java, it's quite portable (and doesn't seem to have the lag of most large Java applications I've used).

    Hopefully that helps a litte.

I've been downloading things with BitTorrent more frequently recently and have been looking for a client that runs in the system tray so I can seed but not be bothered by random open windows. Thanks!
