Bowling over 200

6th August 2004, early evening | Comments (27)

I meant to mention this a while back, but on the fourth of July The Girlfriend and I went bowling, in Daly City. I’d only been 10-pin bowling about six times in my life, so I was rather pleased to come up with a score like this in Game 1:

A bowling card showing a total score of 202
Five strikes in a row!

I’m sure lots of you regularly bowl over 200, but it was the first time I’d managed it. I’m rather chuffed.

You sure top me. My best is about 130 or something.

Wow, that's good. I can't get nearly that much.

Rob, the chopped off name is "HDP 0," the same text that's above Dunstan's name.

Besides, I don't think Dunstan would taunt us like that. Or would he? ;)

Hey well done Dunstan, great feeling when you do something like that isn't it. I got my best score of about 210 when I went and played about 20 games in one night for some special deal :P

Rob, not only was I not able to top Dunstan's Five-Bagger (http://www.bowling2u.com/trivia/glossary/glossary.asp?OpMode=Term&TermID=79), but I think I did so poorly that I had a negative final score :o) Dunstan was just trying to spare me the embarrassment.

Thanks Dunstan and well done you (I love a man who can bowl)!

Who _can_ top him? He's amazing. No he's more - he's Super Dunstan (Naked (sometimes/often))!

Ah well. You know what they say. Playing is more important than winning. At least, that's what we in Holland try to convey to the world.

Dunstan has a gf? Sheesh, since when? A lot has during my trip, eh? Haha. Or is just someone named The Girlfriend?

Dunstan, what did you think about Serra Bowl? I've only been there once, but it's large, with a good snack bar - your prototypical American bowling alley. Open 24 hours, too (right?).

Bowling is great, isn't it? I bowled in a work league once, and the best I could ever muscle up was around 180 if I remember correctly (which happens occasionally). Know what makes bowling even better? Yep, beer.

    Edit-damn I love your spell-checker!

After reading "I’m rather chuffed", I had to do a quick Google search on the word "Chuffed". Never heard it used before, but I now know it's not a good idea to accidentally say "chuff" when you really mean "chuffed."

Love the new design Dunstan, and, as always, enjoy the content.

The sentence "Bowling is hot in the inner city." springs to mind.

I read it here once (go to paragraph 10): (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A64420-2002Aug9?language=printer

I haven't been bowling in a very long time. I think I went to some bowling alley in Middlesbrough last time.

I can usually get quite a few strikes, but not that many :P

Why does Dunstan always conceal the name of "The Girlfriend" anyway?

Maybe because she wants him to.

Or maybe because Dunstan doesn't want anyone to steal her. ;)

Quite nice for only a few games in your life. I had only been a few times before playing in a high school league. My average was somewhere near 135 at that time. Eventually I got better and pulled out a 202 and a 219, but I haven't been lately. After High school I'd usually hit 175-180. It's funny that my first over-200 game was the same score as yours (at least I'm pretty sure it was)!

Very good job Dunstan! A 202 is excellent - especially after only bowling a few games in your life. It took me over 12 years to get my first 200. If you like the game, you should stick with it. Good luck to you.
